Money Is The Root Of All Sorts Of Evil
The distribution of goods, and more to the point, the proper distribution of goods is a challenge which, having undertaken it, poses great risk both to the owner of such goods and even to the recipients in some cases.
As I was writing the above comment, I recalled being taught the biblical lesson that ‘the love of money is at the root of all sorts of evil’.
Here is my story, as a bonus, that lended me inspiration towards writing this. One person I know had more wealth. They were expected, due to the wealth they earned, to give above and beyond. They were expected to give more on top of what they already gave to the poor. The recipient also, might have had encountered troubles due to expecting more since, as the rather brutal saying goes “don’t feed the animals or they will learn to expect bread from you”.
In closing, I recall this bible verse which is all I could come up with to lend aid.
“You [will] always have the poor with you but you will not always have me.” -Jesus
Addendum: Although, as it is written, every man is responsible for their own sins (e.g. the sins of the father are not to be made to be paid by the son but every man is to be held accountable for their own sins (special miraculous events aside)…
I forgot where I was going with this, and I legitimately don’t mean it as a threat, but the weight of such a verse still bears repeating. “You always have the poor with you but you don’t always have me.”
Ah, now I remember. The recipient of the goods in the story, although already helped, might have had a slight increase towards the extending of their hands more then justice would permit them to do, as some beggars are known for doing.
For this case, I recall even this wisdom from Solomon who, if he is known for anything, it would be for his wisdom (and the great building of our temple of course)
Verse:
“Strong drink is not for rulers or princes but rather, it is for those who are distressed and afflicted.”
Life poses many risks and since the love of money is a gateway to all sorts of evils, this is the best I could come up with regarding your defense on this issue.
I rarely give commands of my own but I might have one:
Partially, as Michael has defended you, at least bear something of a heart towards defending others although I do not cast this burden upon you in every and all cases. Nevertheless, the old commandment mentioned by Jesus is that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves.
